THE GAME RETURNS AO Round 1 [14 Jan 2006|05:05pm]

Yes thats right. The game is back. For those of who weren't with us last year, or who have simply forgotten, the game is a process of elimination. You choose who you think is going to win the match, get rid of the other person who think will lose, and ta-da you have your match result. The person/s with the least amount of wrong guess gets the pleasure of becomming the winner of that round. And so on, until the final round, where the overall winner will be crowned, and heck i'm sure we can rustle up a banner for the winner and runner up. So get your thinking gaps on and fill in your side of the draw. After all the AO starts in less than 24 hours.

the invincible player [22 Sep 2005|05:10pm]
let's try something. Create the ultimate, invincible player by putting parts of different players' games. You can only use the players that are currently on tour. The categories:

1st serve
2nd serve
Court speed
Drop shot

2 year holiday [08 Aug 2005|09:12pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

I was wondering what you guys feel about the two year suspension (not to mention the forfeiting of ranking points and prize money) that was given to Guillermo Canas. He tested positive for diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, which is some drug that he was using. This makes him the 4th Argentinian to test positive for doping, but Chela, Puerta, and Coria did not recieve such severe punishments. I was just interested in seeing what you all felt about the crime as well as the punishment. Do any of you feel it was too harsh or not harsh enough? Here are some articles about the story...

[07 Aug 2005|10:12pm]

A few months ago the ATP announced a new change in doubles. Personally I think it's horrible and so do many other people (especially Mike & Bob Bryan, a top doubles team in the world). Here, read the article and evaluate for yourself.

ATP Implements Doubles Collapse )</p>

If you too disagree with this, please sign http://www.petitiononline.com/Tennis/petition.html. I'm trying to help get the word out because I find this to be a horrible change. It makes me feel bad for the guys who are doubles specialists and don't play singles. Now they have to find a whole new career? That's horrible. What do they want doubles to be? An exhibition for singles players? It's a whole other game.

the discussions are back! [17 Jul 2005|05:51pm]

So...DC quarterfinals are over. the teams advancing to the semis are:
-Slovak Republic (4-1 against the Netherlands)
-Argentina (4-1 against Australia)
-Russia (3-2 against France)
-Croatia (4-1 against Romania)

my question:
Argentina over Austalia & Russia over France: are you surprised?

I think i am for both, especially Argentina over Australia. Certainly thought Austalia had the advantage at home, and playing on grass. France...i frankly have no idea why i should be surprised. but i am. so tada.

and let's play Fill in the Draw!Collapse )

First week of Wimbledon [25 Jun 2005|05:13pm]

First week is over!

Here's a chart i snagged from http://wimbledon.org of the Gentlemen's Seeds (excluding #33, Olivier Rochus):

the 32Collapse )

what do you think about it? any big surprises?

for me (and almost everyone here, I'm sure) the biggest one is Tim Henman losing to Dmitry Tursunov. Last year he lost to Mario Ancic who came into the tournament ranked #64 in the world and now Tursunov, #152.

As for Nadal i thought maybe he could make it into the second week but i don't think it was THAT big a shock, not as huge as Tim Henman anyway. The same goes for Marat. He was adjusting to grass and we could see that so I'm happy for him :)

Other smaller surprises: maybe Joachim Johansson and Ivan Ljubicic. I still can't believe, with serve like his, Ivan wouldn't be able to play well on grass. hmm.

lol Missy dahrling... I'm sorry! It's just easier for me to do it all in one post... plus... how do you organize your sections? Because it's not in the same order as the draw... do you use the order of play? Eek I don't know... I get confused. Nickname Reference List [20 Jun 2005|10:25pm]
I thought it'd be interesting for us to keep a list of commonly used, on lj or on mtf or in the general tennis world, nicknames of tennis players.

List keeps growing!!Collapse )

So far, the ATP Zoo is doing well.

If you want to add anything to this list just comment away :]
And if you don't understand any of them you can also comment and one of us should know! ;)

Okay Missy's post... don't let it confuse you... ermm... if you already gave me your whole round one, you're fine for day two... if you didn't, then post it there and i'll add it into with the others.

For Day 1 of Wimbly the leaders are:

savestheday91 and simpleternity with 8 wrong.

blindaffection with 9 wrong.

artcrazed with 10 wrong.

and supersexy58 with 12 wrong.

The only caveat to that is that the Udomchoke/Koubek match is not included. blindaffection was the only one to take Udomchoke. Everyone else has Koubek. So after the outcome of that match is known, we will either have a 3-way tie for first between myself, simpleternity and blindaffection or a two way tie between myself and Mary.

So that is that! Ermm... the fact that some people missed the first half means no banners for this round because it got too confusing... but we'll do banners for the second round on. Okay? Excellent.

Good job everyone :)

Wimbledon: Day 2 [21 Jun 2005|12:24am]

Right so we forgot to do this for yesterdays play...oops.

So if your new or whatever. Pick who you think will win the match, at the end of the day we add it all up and see who the winner is. The winner will get a nice pretty banner. At the end of the tournament we'll have an overall winner and a trip the men's locker rooms.

This section of the draw is divided into 4 sections to help make it easier for us to do the counting etc.

Best of luck!

you know the drillCollapse )

Oops ignore this, unless you were out of the country for the past few days. Like my good self.

Okay guys. Yay this will be fun. [17 Jun 2005|11:24pm]
Okay so the "game" kind of died 2 weeks ago when stuff got messed up. BUT SLAMS ARE ORGANIZED. SO IT IS BACK FOR WIMBLEDON and we won't like ignore it or forget about it this time.

You know the deal. First round matchups are behind the cut. Make your pics. I am giving you the WHOLE WEEKEND. So take your time but get them in on Sunday. You have no excuses to be late with them this time :)

SO without further ado...

THE BIG W... Round 1Collapse )
